01. Mastering Drapanka & Micro-Engraving Techniques in Egg Art - Nadia Gennings - Thursday July 18th - 9:30am to 11:30am

In this hands-on workshop, you'll discover the intricate art of Drapanka – a traditional method of decorating eggs with scratched designs – and explore the use of micro-engravers on dyed eggs.

What You Will Learn:

  1. Tools of the Trade: We'll kick off the class with an overview of various tools available for egg scratching, focusing on those I personally recommend based on my extensive experience.

  2. Design Planning: Students will learn the critical process of planning and drawing a design onto an egg. This includes understanding symmetry, balance, and the importance of choosing a design that complements the egg's shape.

  3. Drawing Techniques: Next, you'll learn how to sketch flowers and borders directly onto the egg, creating the base for your final design.

  4. Adding Colour: Once your design is drawn, we'll move on to colorizing the flowers on your Drapanka using dye or markers. This step brings your creation to life and adds a vibrant touch to your artwork.

  5. Micro-Engraving Demo: In the last half-hour of the class, I'll demonstrate how to use a micro-engraver to scratch your eggs, along with tips on cleaning up any missed coverage on a Pysanka.
