05 - Making Colours Pop with Jennifer E Kwong - Thursday August 17th - 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Making colours pop! (And other insights on colour)

With Jennifer E Kwong

Thursday August 17th - 7:00pm - 9:00pm - Borealis Green Room

workshop description:

“Why do some colour combinations pop, while others fall flat?”

“How do I develop a colour palette for an egg design?”

“Ok…it’s a colour wheel…how does this help me?”

“Are there any guidelines for making better colour choices?”

I hope you’ll join me on a rolicking romp through the world of colour, where we’ll tackle these questions and more! Part slideshow, part storytime, and part hands-on play, this workshop will look at colour in the way I wish I’d been taught.

The workshop is designed to take advantage of a large class size…the more the merrier! You’ll leave with a new sense of colour confidence, take-home materials to play with, and a head (or camera roll) full of ideas.

background

Three years ago, I decided to learn how to weave. Along with the foolish assumption that I could become a weaver in a few weeks, I’d assumed that my colour knowledge would be an asset. Boy, was I wrong!

Imagine my disappointment as I found myself making one hideous colour blunder after another. How could this be?! As a designer and illustrator, and artist, I’d spent most of my life immersed in colour.

For the first time in my life, I felt defeated and intimidated by colour. Had all my earlier colour successes been a fluke? I was determined to get to the bottom of things. Through research and play, I began to see the narrowness of my earlier “colour thinking”. Although I’d had extensive knowledge of colour theory, I’d lacked the threads of insight necessary to gain full command over colour.

Luckily, the “threads of insight” are a few simple principles that anyone can learn. They’ve been game-changing in all “colourful” areas of my life: weaving, egging, and design. I can’t wait to share them with you!
