#20. Petrikivka Painting With a Cat Fur Brush - Sofiya Ohorodnyk - Wedneday July 22nd - 7:00pm-9:00pm

Workshop Summary:

Petrykivka painting (or simply "Petrykivka"; Ukrainian: Петриківський розпис) is a traditional Ukrainian decorative painting style, originating from the village of Petrykivka in Dnipropetrovsk oblast of Ukraine, where it was traditionally used to decorate house walls and everyday household items. The earliest known examples of this style date from the 18th century, but it continues to thrive and develop as a modern art form.

The goal of our class will be to get acquainted with the specific techniques of brushstrokes using an acrylic brush and a cat fur brush in the Petrykivka style - as well as different types of flowers, leaves, and decorative finishing strokes.

In the first part of the class, we’ll practice all kinds of brushstrokes. In the second part, we’ll begin working on a composition on canvas. I sincerely hope we’ll be able to finish the entire painting within the scheduled time; however, since each participant will have a pre-drawn pencil outline, I expect it will be quite possible to complete the work independently, either at home or before the end of the retreat.

I also hope the skills you gain will help you applyPetrykivka patterns to decorate Easter eggs.

Each participant will receive a cat fur brush as a gift.

The most important things I ask you to bring to this class are lots of patience and a good mood. I’ll provide everything else you’ll need 😉
