Dividing an egg into precise divisions is a crucial technique for creating complex patterns in egg artistry. Understanding how to use a craft lathe can decrease the time it takes you to get there.This workshop offers in-depth practical lessons on these aspects, paving the way for you to elevate your egg decorating skills.

In this interactive workshop, you'll learn how to:

1. Center an egg in your craft lathe for perfect symmetry
2. Utilize Happy Egging Lathe Rings
3. Employ a lathe table for stability and control
4. Divide an egg into Basic Eight, Basic Sixteen, and Twelve Diamonds divisions for intricate designs
5. Further divide an egg into a grid of 48, opening up possibilities for more complex patterns

What to Bring:

• Two eggs: one chicken egg and one larger egg (turkey or goose)
• Tan plastic craft lathe
• Happy Egging lathe rings
• A lathe table (Happy Egging, Gene's, Chad's, Mark Malachowski's, or any rigid surface that brings your pencil to the exact center of the lathe)
• A flat black pencil

About Shannon Wallis:

Shannon is a former elementary school art and nursery school teacher and has been writing pysanky in Vermont since 1994 when she learned the technique from another art teacher. While Shannon has no Ukrainian or Eastern European ancestry, she has fallen in love with pysanky as an art form.

Shannon finds both the traditional and modern designs enticing, especially when they involve geometry. Shannon teaches pysanky in her home studio, on Zoom, at most of the North American pysanky retreats, including Pysanky Toronto in the past and is delighted to be teaching at Ukrainiain EggCessories Pysanky Retreat 2024 again this year. Shannon won the People's Choice Award in the Classic category in the first annual International Pysanka Exhibition at the Ukrainian Museum of Canada, Ontario Branch in June 2019.

She is a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen in mixed media, has her eggs in several galleries and sells her pysanky and batik eggs online and at various craft shows and markets. Besides being an egg artist, Shannon is a wife and a mother of two young adults.
