Two granddaughters of Ukrainian immigrants have collaborated on a new Easter children’s classic entitled “Sophie and Her Sisters Decorate Eggs for Easter.”©
This beautifully illustrated 32-page story -- of five Ukrainian sisters and their three nieces -- is devoted to the beloved tradition of pysanky – eggs that are decorated with multi-layers of beeswax and colored dyes which progress from light shades (yellow) to darker ones (blue, red, or black). Pysanky and the hours dedicated to decorating multi-colored eggs typically involve a community of relatives and friends, often sisters, who come together annually at Easter time.
